This album is a collection of various renowned works brushed by Chen Hongshou (1768-1822), beginning with the preface to the Orchid Pavilion Compilation, a collection of prefaces to Buddhist scriptures, and couplets by Tang poets. Aside from one linked verse written in the clerical lishu (J., reisho ) script, the rest of the works were brushed in the cursive xingshu (J., ) "grass" script. The inscriptions within the album, dated Daoguang 1 (1821) and 2 (1822), indicate that Chen Hongshou produced this calligraphic work in his last years. Or
