linen, cotton, aluminum strips
Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum
Handwoven fragment of evening coat fabric in matte white and silver metallic yarns in a very subtle vertical stripe. Warp is of white cotton used in pairs; each weft consists of two white cotton yarns with one silver-colored yarn plied with red and green threads. The vertical stripe effect is caused by the exchange of wefts from one face of the double cloth to the other. Museum purchase through gift of Mrs. John Innes Kane
