Granite and steel
“Place is material, material is place.” — Michael Heizer Michael Heizer brings nature inside by embedding stones into the museum wall. Roughly geometric blocks of black Nubian granite are set into three-and-one-half-inch steel liners that are then covered with sheet rock to create a finished wall. Sculpture penetrates into something rather than projecting outward.
