Eero Saarinen's armchair was the first fiberglass chair to be mass-produced when it appeared on the American market in 1948. Derived from experiments Saarinen had conducted with Charles Eames on molded-plywood seat shells for the Organic Furniture Competition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1940, Saarinen's chair was conceived as a contemporary version of the overstuffed club armchair. storage
