A page from a manuscript titled 'CIPHERING-BOOK' with decorative borders and printed text. It includes a poem about education and illustrations of a horse-drawn carriage and a steam train. Child's manuscript diary kept by Jonathan King from January 18, 1875 to April or May 1875. Decorated in Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Art style and depicting various rural animals and implements. The entries are very similar from day to day. The material has been written in a blank book in tan decorated wrappers with the title "Ciphering-book the property of " with imprint "Bethania, PA Made and sold, wholesale and retail, by Reuben Chambers."
