A wall-mounted CD player with a CD inserted is shown against a white background. The device is square with rounded corners and a perforated grille surrounding the central CD opening. Like many of Fukasawa’s designs, this CD player is minimalist in function and appearance. Fukasawa based its design on a ceiling fan to give it an automatically recognizable and memorable identity. A tug on the power string activates the player, spinning the exposed CD as music plays through an integrated speaker. The MUJI CD player has gained international recognition for its anti-technical aesthetic.
