Earthenware with tin glaze and enamel (grand feu faïence), Enamel
A scalloped charger decorated with a pastoral scene featuring figures, animals, and floral motifs. The central scene depicts figures playing music and hunting, surrounded by various animals and plants. The round charger (large plate) has a slightly raised edge and lobed rim. Decorated in green and orangish yellow on a white ground, the ornamentation features fanciful figures, including animals playing musical instruments, and fantastic birds surrounded by plants and insects. These motifs are arranged in a balanced composition of three tiered registers around a central axis. All these aspects are typical of the distinctive design vocabulary developed at the Olerys-Laugier firm at Mennecy in southeastern France. This charger is an excellent example of the high-quality works produced there, in this case painted by Jean Francois Pello
