Graphite
In this powerful drawing Fanny Cornforth (1835 – 1906), one of Dante Gabriel Rosetti’s favorite models and longtime companion, lays on a chaise-longue, her head cradled by her hand and floral cushions. Rosetti likely captured this unguarded moment at his home, using graphite to casually render her serene face and flowing hair. Christie's, London. Catalogue of the Remaining Works, and The Collection of Ancient & Modern Pictures and Water-Colour Drawings, of that Distinguished Artist, G.P. Boyce, July 1, 1897, p. 4, lot 28.
