Sardonyx
A carved sardonyx cameo depicts two standing figures in profile, facing each other. The figures are rendered in relief against a dark background. Hygieia, to left, standing facing right, and Asklepios, her father and the god of healing and medicine, to right, standing facing front. Hygieia holds a serpent and dish, and Asklepios leans on a serpent-entwined staff. The back is unfinished. Spier, Jeffrey. Ancient Gems and Finger Rings: Catalogue of the Collections (Malibu: The J. Paul Getty Museum, 1992), no. 445.
