A tortoiseshell album cover is adorned with ornate gold metalwork and a central oval cameo depicting two figures in white relief against a light blue background. The photographs are cartes-de-visite portraits of distinguished Britons sitters of the early 1860s, including members of the royal family, the aristocracy, statesmen, an explorer, and actors. A "modern" assembled album of 199 cartes-de-visit by Erich Sommer.
