Yoshida Hodaka (self-published)
1955
Woodblock print, ink and color on paper
In 1955, Yoshida Hodaka traveled to Mexico, where he discovered Mayan art and culture with its distinct sculpture and architecture. Deeply affected by what he saw, he began creating a series of bold and dynamic abstractions inspired by Mayan headdresses and other cultural elements. Gallery G253 Gift of the Clark Center for Japanese Art & Culture; formerly given to the Center by H. Ed Robison, in memory of his beloved wife Ulrike Pietzner Robison
