Lithograph on tan paper
A charcoal sketch depicts a man from the chest up, with loose, expressive lines defining his features and clothing. The background is the tan paper itself. The Austrian Expressionist Oskar Kokoschka published this impressive self-portrait in his 80th year. His likeness slowly emerges in the network of jagged, brutal black marks on the paper—the aging revolutionary artist remains defiant, albeit world-weary. Gallery Not on View Bequest of Rosalynd C. Pflaum in appreciation of MIA curator Richard Campbell's years of assistance
