Two ancient Korean coins with square holes in the center are displayed against a white background. The coins have visible inscriptions. These are good examples of the first coins minted during the Joseon Period. They were minted in 1423 (the 5th year of King Sejong’s reign), with their name Joseon Tongbo inscribed on the head. The Joseon Tongbo was designed after the Kaiyuan Tongbao, a coin of the Tang Dynasty of China. Provenance: Seodaemun-gu Location: Joseon2 Exhibition: Coins, Joseon-tongbo Accession number: Sinsu6004
