A scroll displays large, bold black East Asian calligraphy characters on a light tan paper background. Smaller text is present in red and black ink above and below the main characters. This is a piece of handwriting made by Prince Yi Gong (later King Sunjo, the 23rd ruler of the Joseon Dynasty) in 1795 (the 19th year of King Jeongjo’s reign), when he was six years old. The Chinese characters written at the top by Yun Haeng-im (1762-1801) state that he would forever treasure this handwriting given to him by the prince. Accession number: Bongwan6904
