A long, rectangular textile features a repeating geometric pattern in red and cream, bordered by a black section at the top and patterned bands on the sides. Plain weave, double ikat decoration in natural and blue-black on a deep red ground, displaying floral motif known locally as 'cicempaka patang dasu' forty flowers. Decorative stitch work of some kind of plant fibre at each end of the cloth. This cloth was made in the village of Tenganan Pegeringsingan, eastern Bali, Indonesia. Attributed with powerful magical and protective qualities, geringsing are worn as a ceremonial clothing and used in rites of passage, as well as in offerings to Hindu gods. The Balinese
