This is a detailed architectural model of a Japanese Buddhist temple bell tower. The model features intricate carvings, a central bell, and a multi-tiered roof structure. This model of a Japanese bell tower (shoro) stands on a four-legged pedestal, and is made of lacquered and carved wood. The pedestal has four carved curved legs ending in scroll feet. At each corner there are lion-headed demons with inlay eyes. Along each side, flowers and leaves are carved in low relief into deep red-brown wood. Above this pedestal, the base of the bell tower is in the flat-topped pyramid shape known as hakamagoshi (spreading skirt).
