The model was hand made using clay. The design models were produced by Reef Design Lab during design development for the project in 2021-22. The EMU project was commissioned by the Greater Geelong City Council to provide coastal protection, increase marine habitat and create a snorkelling experience for the community. Forty-six erosion mitigation units were installed in shallow water 60 meters off shore at Clifton Springs on the Bellarine Pen
