A carved wooden architectural portal with an arched opening is flanked by two marble busts on pedestals. The portal features intricate carvings and fluted columns. This portico is from the entrance hall of a grand house on the Singel canal in Amsterdam, designed by the architect Vinckboons in 1639. Both the exterior and the interior of the building were classicizing in style. The house was commissioned by Joan Huydecoper, mayor of Amsterdam and a prominent art lover.
