glas
A clear glass goblet with etched text and decorative elements is shown against a plain gray background. The goblet features a faceted stem and base, and the bowl is decorated with a ribbon-tied crest and text. This glass belonged to the heemraadschap (board of dike-reeves) of Nieuwer Amstel (now Amstelveen), near Amsterdam. The dike-reeve and board members regularly inspected the dikes in their district. These inspections concluded with a dinner, at which the goblet was removed from its case and used to toast the success of the inspection and the future of the board. Translation of inscription: Dike-reeve of Nieuwer Amstel.
