Printed cotton cloth (wax resist)
A printed cotton cloth features a central diamond shape containing a portrait of John F. Kennedy, with US presidential seals repeated in the background. During his presidency, John F. Kennedy gained the respect of many West Africans through his interest in African politics and founding of the Peace Corps in 1961. His assassination in 1963 left many Africans stunned that a democratic country would destroy such a vital leader. He has since become a symbol for democratic ideals. Gift of Kris McClusky Object number 96.3
