Zinc photoetching and woodblock print, ink and color on paper
Yoshida Hodaka was born into a family of artists and was first not meant to become one himself. Hodaka was the second son of Yoshida Hiroshi (1876–1950) who was a leading Western-style artist in Japan during the early 20th century. Hodaka’s mother Fujio (1887–1987) was also an artist as was his older brother Tōshi (1911–1995). Contrary to all of them, Hodaka leaned towards abstraction which was until then not heard of within the family. It was therefore not until his father died in 1950 that Hodaka could embark on his own path. This print is part of a set of six that he created in 1992 for an exhibition at the Wall Museum in Suwako,
